Each year, an estimated total of 1 to 1.5 million individuals from North America participate in some type of international humanitarian short-term mission trip, lasting anywhere from a few days to a few months. While all of these trips are undoubtedly well-intentioned, the actual impact might only be temporary. These trips have the potential to make a permanent change in the lives of the poor, and MAP International has the tools to make this happen.

We believe the short-term missions experience should be transformed into something that is a complementary component of effective, empowering, and sustainable long-term health development programs. Our vision is to shift paradigms within the short-term missions movement towards better integration with long-term community health development programs. We call this Transformational Missions, and we are proud to offer individuals and teams the opportunity to participate in this vision.

Short Term Missions

Short term medical, and non-medical, mission teams from North America will serve and learn on brigades or projects within an existing Total Health Village program facilitated by MAP Country Office staff.

Partnership Opportunities

You will engage with MAP program staff, community health workers, and interact with communities who participate in MAP programs. You will also get the chance to explore ways to partner with MAP.

Curriculum Based Study

Students participate in a short-term field study that is incorporated into the curriculum of an educational institution within the degree areas of public health, community health, or international development.

MAP Medical Fellowship

Fourth year medical studetns are awarded an eight week fellowship to a MAP-approved mission clinic or hospitcal, preferably in a country where MAP has a country office.

Disaster Relief Response

Disaster Response teams from North America will serve in a post-disaster situation to provide relief to those affected. This opportunity requires previous MAP approval.
