MAP International begins long-term planning for Haiti
MAP International is continuing to provide medicines and medical supplies to help the people of Haiti as they begin what is sure to be a long recovery, following the massive earthquake that struck the island nation on January 12.
Within 10 days of the quake MAP had medicines and medical supplies valued at $10 million dollars committed to the relief effort in Haiti. Much of this desperately needed cargo has already been received by medical partners in the country and more is currently in route to Port-au-Prince by air or sea.
Thousands of Haitians rescued from the debris suffered severe injury to limbs—resulting in many amputations, along with serious crush wounds, fractures, head and spinal injuries. MAP is working with medical partners to make sure that the injured receive physical therapy, prosthetics or rehab equipment and retraining they need to return to a productive life.
Immediately after the earthquake, MAP began hearing from medical mission teams from across the U.S. who were scheduling short-term mission trips as soon as regular air travel to the island resumed. MAP continues to meet the high demand for the Travel Packs that these volunteer teams need as they, too, seek to assist in Haiti’s long term recovery.
Because MAP has a 40+ year history of supplying medical shipments to clinics and hospitals throughout Haiti, we were in a unique position get critically needed supplies from the distribution center in Brunswick, GA and into the hands of health professionals already working in the country.
MAP will continue to work with medical partners to ensure that as new clinics are established and existing ones reopen or expand, they have a essential medicines and medical supplies needed to provide the care that the Haitian people need. Longer term rehabilitation efforts are underway and MAP is working with the people of Haiti to help them rebuild in sound, sustainable ways.
Please continue to pray for the Haitian people and the aid workers who are serving them.
