Irma Relief: A measure of comfort in a difficult time

IrmaReliefSavannah.jpgTens of thousands of Coastal Georgia residents are returning to their communities following evacuation from Hurricane Irma.

Many are finding their homes uninhabitable due to damaging flood waters and downed trees on top of their roofs.

For these residents, temporary shelters are opening up and down the Georgia coast. And their neighbor, MAP International, will be supplying several of these shelters with its Disaster Health Kits (DHK).

Sav Irma ReliefA.jpgIn Savannah today, MAP’s Disaster Response Team distributed DHKs to a shelter being set up to receive individuals at Groves High School.

As the team wrapped up their preparation work, the first families arrived.  The team witnessed six children, each carrying their suitcase while their mother walked closely behind. Her arms were full with her few remaining possessions.  This family had already been living in a different shelter for five days. Understandably, they looked tired and weary given all that they had endured.

Thanks to MAP supporters, this family and many others will arrive at the Groves High School shelter and find a MAP International Disaster Health Kit awaiting them on their cot.

And tomorrow, the MAP Disaster Team will visit another shelter offering each family a measure of comfort in a truly difficult time.
