Reflections on a Journey to Liberia

Monrovia, Liberia--I've been to a number of countries in Africa over the past 15 years, but this was my first visit to Liberia.  Liberians are resilient and gracious people.  They have prevailed against more than 12 years of civil war which tore apart the country, including the health systems.  In 2005, Liberians elected their first woman president, Ellen Johnson Sirleaf. She has dedicated herself to rebuild the country (Dr. James Sirleaf, son of the president, serves on MAP's board).

Finding Hope through the Eyes of a Buruli Ulcer Patient

It took two flights and over 24 hours to reach Ghana from Atlanta, then another flight and a 3.5 hour drive to reach Sunyani, Ghana.  Sunyani is in the northwest region of Ghana and is home to nearly 300,000 people and MAP International’s headquarters in Ghana.
