Sierra Leone – Isata is a devoted mother who lives in rural Sierra Leone with her husband and two children. Together, they maintain a small family farm, which provides enough income to keep the children clothed and fed, and to pay the school fees for their oldest child.
When their youngest, a precious 6-month-old little boy named Brima, developed a high fever, Isata became concerned. He refused to eat, and after several days of illness, Brima was weak and lethargic.
Isata knew Brima needed help that she could not provide at home, so she took her baby to the nearest health center, a MAP partner clinic 3 miles away.
Nurse Mansaray diagnosed little Brima with both malaria and a secondary infection, and immediately started him on a course of antibiotics, which had been donated to the clinic by MAP International.
After a week on the medication, Brima had significantly improved. His fever had abated, and his appetite had returned to normal. Now that he was better, Isata could now return her focus to her farm work, helping her husband maintain their stream of income.
“I am pleased with the treatment and the support we have received,” Isata told the nurse. “Thanks to God Almighty, the nurses, and MAP International. My son is doing much better now, and I can continue caring for my family. I am truly grateful for the help.”
