MAP International Helps Launch Prostate Cancer Screening Campaign in Vietnam

Brunswick, GA, September 26, 2025 – MAP International, an internationally recognized global health organization based in Brunswick, Georgia, is proud to partner with Project Vietnam Foundation and funding organization Astellas Pharma Inc., to implement a public health initiative to help increase prostate cancer awareness and promote early detection in Vietnam.

Globally, cancer is the second leading cause of death, and the country of Vietnam sees approximately 165,000 new cancer cases and about 115,000 cancer deaths each year, according to the World Health Organization (WHO).

Of all cancers, prostate cancer is one of the leading causes of cancer-related deaths in men globally, second only to lung cancer, according to one study.

Early detection of cancer through methodical screening can significantly improve health outcomes and reduce mortality rates. While screening for cancer does not reduce the incidence of the disease, it does act as a secondary prevention, allowing for earlier intervention and treatment and increasing survival rates.

With this in mind, MAP International and its partners launched the campaign in late summer 2025, marking the beginning of a four-year commitment to improve men’s health across the country of Vietnam.

This program is funded by Astellas Pharma Inc. , a pharmaceutical partner who also supported MAP International’s successful prostate health campaign in the Dominican Republic.

Initially, the campaign will begin in one hospital, with the goal of screening 1,000 men each year. These screenings will be offered free of charge to patients who would otherwise have no access or resources to pay for services. For individuals whose initial screenings have abnormal results, additional follow-up testing and biopsies will be provided.

In addition to performing cancer screenings, the program aims to launch community outreach programs that educate men on overall prostate health and the benefits of early detection for prostate cancer. Another goal of these community education efforts is to reduce the fear and stigma surrounding prostate screenings.

Regionally, the campaign will also develop and implement trainings for local Vietnamese healthcare professionals, educating them on the latest screening techniques and patient management.

At the systemic level, formal trainings will expand to include healthcare providers across all of Vietnam, establishing a standardized prostate cancer screening and management curriculum and supporting on-site training for healthcare teams. With the data collected during this four-year campaign, MAP International and its partners hope to see prostate health elevated to a national priority in Vietnam, providing more targeted and streamlined treatment to men across the country. Through this initiative, MAP International and its partners are addressing a critical gap in preventative healthcare and working to save lives through education, early intervention, and increased access to care.
