Help Rush Aid to Survivors of Hurricane Melissa

Hurricane Melissa made landfall in Jamaica as a powerful Category 5 storm with sustained winds near 185 mph — the strongest hurricane ever recorded to hit the island since 1851. The government has declared Jamaica a disaster area as widespread flooding and power outages cripple hospitals and essential services, increasing the risk of secondary health crises.

Thousands have been forced into emergency shelters after losing their homes. Several hospitals were heavily damaged, including one where the roof was ripped away, forcing the evacuation of patients as floodwaters rose.

MAP International’s Response

MAP International is mobilizing an immediate emergency response to deliver aid to families. Our first deployment includes 20,000 Disaster Health Kits (DHKs), each filled with essential hygiene and health supplies designed to help families survive in the aftermath of disaster.

These kits will be distributed through MAP’s well-established network of trusted on-the-ground partners, ensuring that aid moves quickly and efficiently to where it is needed most. Because of these pre-existing relationships and logistical infrastructure, MAP can act within hours—not days—once conditions allow safe distribution.

The Immediate Need

To launch this first phase of response, MAP needs to raise $100,000. These funds will:

• Procure and ship 20,000 Disaster Health Kits to Jamaica and other impacted regions.
• Support rapid coordination with on-the-ground partners to assess needs and deliver aid.
• Sustain the emergency logistics required to move critical health resources to affected communities.

This initial goal will enable MAP to respond immediately following landfall, with additional phases anticipated as the full scope of the devastation becomes clear.
