Interagency Emergency Health Kits (IEHKs)

MAP's Interagency Emergency Health Kits (IEHKs) are comprehensive and vital medical kits designed to provide essential tools for medical professionals in underserved areas and emergency situations. These kits include a wide array of medical instruments and supplies, such as surgical aprons, stainless steel basins and cups, otoscope and stethoscope sets, various forceps and scissors, sterilizers, thermometers, timers, and much more. With the inclusion of advanced equipment like water filters and electronic weighing scales, the IEHKs enable medical practitioners to deliver quality healthcare to those in need during times of distress. The impact of these kits is immeasurable, as they empower healthcare providers to efficiently diagnose, treat, and care for patients, ultimately saving lives and alleviating suffering.

Disaster Health Kits (DHKs)

MAP's Disaster Health Kits provide crucial hygiene items like shampoo, soap, toothbrush, toothpaste, and more, offering comfort and dignity to those affected by disasters. With a comb, washcloth, deodorant, and a first aid kit included, these packs make a significant impact, supporting the well-being and resilience of disaster-affected communities during challenging times.

Disaster Response

Now more than ever, we must be ready for disaster to strike.

In war zones and flood zones, in the wake of earthquakes, hurricanes and pandemics, MAP mobilizes to get lifesaving medicine and desperately needed health supplies to our on-the-ground partners to aid survivors.

Emergencies are accelerating, so we must too.

In recent years, we have witnessed an increase in the frequency and severity of crises caused by climate-related threats and the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2023, 1960 volunteers donated 10,370 hours of their time to pack 83,530 Disaster Health Kits. Each kit is equipped with first aid supplies and hygiene products to support survivors for an entire week after a disaster strikes. 104,020 disaster health kits were delivered in 2023.

In addition, MAP sent 5 Interagency Emergency Health Kits to 4 countries. Each IEHK contained a comprehensive variety of medicines equipped to serve 10,000 people for 90 days. These essential supplies empower healthcare providers to efficiently diagnose, treat, and care for people fleeing crisis situations.

Haiti Humanitarian Crisis

Following years of instability, Haiti’s government declared a state of emergency in early March. Since then, the situation grows increasingly dire. Tens of thousands of Haitians have been forced to flee from their homes with little but the clothes on their backs. MAP is sending three 40-foot containers stocked with essential medicine and supplies and 20,000 Disaster Health Kits for those who have lost everything.

Earthquake in Turkey & Syria

Turkey & Syria were ravished by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake along their jointed border in February 2023. MAP started shipments within weeks of the earthquake. We are still responding to the ongoing crisis.

War in Ukraine

A humanitarian catastrophe is unfolding in Ukraine as an escalated armed conflict put millions of lives at risk. The number of injured survivors is mounting as fighting continues. Our on-the-ground partner reports that more than 2 million refugees have fled the country into bordering countries such as Hungary, Romania, Poland, Moldova and Slovakia in the last few days, creating a humanitarian crisis of almost unprecedented proportions.

MAP is responding by sending essential medicine, health supplies, and Disaster Health Kits to displaced families and children who have lost everything.

Humanitarian Crisis in Burkina Faso

Recent reports show the number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Burkina Faso has recently reached a staggering 2 million. MAP International is working to address malnutrition through prevention and treatment initiatives. The project will work directly with the local health districts to conduct community-based interventions to prevent malnutrition and increase access to treatments, including oral rehydration salts (ORS) and vitamins.

While we can’t prevent disasters, our decades of experience has taught us how to prepare for them. We proactively identify factors that lead to disease outbreaks and take steps to minimize their impact.

In conflicts and man-made disasters like the war in Ukraine, we strengthen supply chains and collaborate with other organizations dedicated to disaster response and healthcare. As human activity worsens climate change, natural disasters are becoming more frequent and severe.

MAP International is leading the way as disaster readiness becomes crucial for survival.

When disaster strikes, we stand ready to respond right away because lives are at stake.

Our dedicated volunteers play a vital role in assembling our signature Disaster Health Kits. Through our extensive network of emergency response partners, we provide rapid and efficient distribution of MAP medicine and health supplies.

The generosity of our essential donors provides us with the necessary resources to deliver relief at a moment’s notice. With your invaluable support, we can make a lifesaving difference!

Even long after the disaster is no longer making headlines, we stay committed to providing medicine and health supplies to the communities impacted. We work with our network of partners to restore healthcare services and prepare communities when the next time disaster strikes.

Our efforts not only to rebuild what was lost but create sustainable systems for healthier futures.

We continue our efforts to heal and transform, leaving no stone unturned to make sure everyone has access to the care they need.
